The Invisible Man and the Vanishing Girl

I see you plain as day

Up close and far away

I see you large as life

I know you inside out

I dreamed that we walked hand in hand you and I

In the midst of a faceless and numberless crowd

And we moved amongst them unseen and unheard

The invisible man and the vanishing girl

In my dream you hung your head

“ I wish they could see us” you said

And just then the crowd was hushed

And all eyes were turned on us

And then they were pointing and shouting out loud

Crowding around us and blocking our light

And I wished in my dream that we’d stayed as we were

The invisible man and the vanishing girl

Sometimes the noise of the world in my ears

Is so loud that it makes me ashamed

Sometimes I wish it would all disappear

And fade into infinite space

I see the hands on the clock

I know that time never stops

I see the lines on your face

I see the traces of grey

But as the disguises we wear fall away

I see your face with new eyes every day

I don’t care if we are in the eyes of the world

The invisible man and the vanishing girl
