Forbidden Fruit

We met in the winter, there was snow in the air

Both of us lonely and cold

I remember the feel of you, the smell of your hair

And the promise to have and to hold

But the years passed us by and they buried us deep

In the cries of the baby and the nights without sleep

Forbidden fruit is the sweetest you'll find

Clings to your tongue like a fine vintage wine

There's nothing but bitterness left in the end 

And I hope that I never taste it again

I remember you asked me if something was wrong

I tried to tell you but I didn't know how

Time after time on the tip of my tongue

I still can't find the words even now

And my silence grows deeper with each chance I've lost

It's like an ocean between us I can't reach you across

Would you open your heart, or would you turn me away?
