Why do some people catch your eye and others they just pass you by?

You’re never going to give them the time of day

Why do some people float your boat and others they just get your goat?

There’s nothing you can do about it either way

And why do you still make me smile even after all this time?

Well it’s something that just happens when I’m in your company

It’s just chemistry….

They tried to teach me back in school about polymers and molecules

Over and over they tried to explain

But it was never worth the bother: in one ear and out the other

And I tried but I could never get it into my brain

But finally I think I see: it’s what happens between you and me

There’s no complicated formulae, it’s as simple as can be

It’s just chemistry….

Some things take time to grow, they steal into your heart

Some things you seem to know right from the very start

Some people like their coffee caffeine-free: it’s never been my cup of tea

I don’t care what they say it just isn’t the same

You either like it or you don’t: you’ll take to it or else you won’t

It's the kind of a thing you can never explain

And if I like you and you like me, well who can say why that should be?
It’s just one of life’s sweet mysteries, that’s how it seems to me

It’s just chemistry…..
