Beachcomber

Searching through the wreckage of a high spring tide

Sifting through the pebbles as they sparkle in the light

If you pick one up and hold it in your hand then you will see

It's never quite as perfect as you thought that it would be

So you think you could do better, you throw it back into the waves

It's lost to you forever and your search begins again

Beachcomber, tell me, do you want to spend your whole life

Searching for perfection on a solitary shoreline

You might as well draw ripples in the sand to sail a boat on

Or try to catch the sunlight as it dances on the ocean.

Sometimes when I see you you remind me of myself

I used to walk the beaches for the beauty of the shells

And they would always disappoint me 'til one day I realised

I only had to find one that was pleasing to my eyes

And all it's many colours when I held it to the light

And all it's imperfections would illuminate my life

Beachcomber, tell me...

And in the end the sun will just go down behind the water

You must have noticed that the days are getting shorter...

Beachcomber, tell me...
